Epistle: Romans 15:4-13 (p. 9 in the complete epistle-gospel Lectionary).
A reading from the epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Romans. Brethren, what things soever were written, were written for our learning, that through patience and the comfort of the scriptures we might have hope. Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of one mind one towards another, according to Jesus Christ: that with one mind, and with one mouth, ye may glorify God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive one another, as Christ also hath received you unto the honour of God. For I say that Christ Jesus was minister of the circum-cision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers, but that the Gentiles are to glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: “For this cause will I confess Thee among the Gentiles, O Lord, and unto Thy name will I chant.”2 And again he saith: “Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with His people.”3 And again: “O praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; praise Him, all ye peoples.”4 And again Isaias saith: “There shall be a root of Jesse; and He that shall rise up to rule the Gentiles, in Him the Gen-tiles shall hope.”5 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, and in the power : of the Holy Ghost. Rom 15:4-13.
Graduale, tone 5: Out of Sion is the magnificence of His comeliness. Our God shall come visibly.
V. Gather together unto Him His holy ones, who have established His covenant upon sacrifices.
Out of Sion...
Alleluia, tone 8: Alleluia, alleluia. V. The powers of heaven shall be moved, and then they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and majesty. Repeat: Alleluia.
Sequence
Let this pious assembly
Sing praise unto Him Who reigneth
Throughout the eternal ages yet to come,
By the sound thereof paying His due to our Divine Creator.
To Whom the angelic hosts shout in jubilation,
Exhilarated by His countenance,
Whom all those on the earth await,
To be queried at His command.
He Who is exacting in His judgments, merciful in His might,
By Thy mercy save us, O Christ, since for us Thou didst
suffer torments.
Lift us to the shining stars of heaven,
Thou Who dost cleanse all ages from defilement.
Let Thy true salvation stream down upon us,
Putting dangers unto flight.
So that all things may be pure,
Do Thou grant us peaceful times.
That being saved here by Thy mercy,
We may draw near, as ones rejoicing,
At Thy realms on high hereafter,
Where Thou reignest through unending ages..
Gospel
Deacon: The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. Deacon: The continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. R. Glory to Thee, O Lord.
At that time Jesus said to His disciples: There shall be signs
in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of
nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea and of the
waves; men withering away for fear, and expectation of what shall come upon
the whole world. For the powers of heaven shall be moved, and then they shall
see the Son of Man coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty. But when
these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads, because
your redemption is at hand. And He spake to them a similitude: See the fig
tree, and all the trees. When they now shoot forth their fruit, ye know that
summer is nigh. So ye also, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know
that the kingdom of God is at hand. Amen I say to you, this generation shall
not pass away, till all things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away,
but My words : shall not pass away. Lk
